Frequently Asked Questions

The Social Place offers a number of networking experiences and while you may be familiar with the the basic functions from time to time questions come up. So let's answer them!

Q: If thre is no advertising how do you plan to make money or maintain this site?

A: This site is a labor of resistance. Started in Jan 2025, it came from watching the techbros bend knee to Donald Trump.

As a web designer, I have the tools, the hosting and of late the time to take basic out of the box solutions and create a FB clone that offers a new platform.

I don't expect to grow to a huge size, as eventually there will be a "shiny" new digital next big social network thing. 

Until then, there is a donation option and folks can choose to give as they wish.

Q: I tried to register and I received an error saying my username or email was already in use? What gives?

A: The registration page has a bit of a "hair trigger". If you double click it, it will often try to register you twice.  Try logging in with your username and password and you should be fine!

Q: How do I change my username, password or other information?

A: Once you've logged in you can get to the "Edit Profile" option in a number of ways. 

Computer-Clicking on your icon in the upper right hand corner will open a drop down menu. Account>Edit Profile will lead you to the screen you need. 

On Mobile - Click the 3 dots in the bottom right hand corner. Edit Profile is the last choice in the menu.

Q: Where do I adjust my Privacy Settings?

A: You can adjust your privacy settings under "Manage Privacy". 
Computer - Click your Avatar and choose Manage>Manage Privacy. You can also access Manage Privacy by choosing it from the left hand user menu on the Edit Profile Page.

Mobile - Click the "hamburger menu" (the three lines) in the upper right hand corner. Choose Manage>Manage Privacy

Q: I don't like the dark color scheme for the site, is there anyway I can change it?

A: Yes indeed! When you are at your Profile or Edit Profile page, look at the top of the left side user menu tool bar. You will see a selection bar and 2 buttons. The themes are named for what they offer.

Mobile - There is no dark theme option on our mobile version.
